Default Please explain 1/4 hollow ground

I'm in the process of seeking my first real SR. My reading suggests a firmer blade is more forgiving, that a round point is a bit safer for the newbie, and that a slightly shorter edge might be easier to handle.

I understand what a wedge is but I'm looking for more information on the other grinds.

Any thoughts on my other criteria for a first SR?

    Thanks.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Here's an older thread with some opinions on 1/4 hollows.

For a first razor, many suggest a 5/8 or 6/8.
