Never throw away dead razors. I take them apart and store the pieces. You never know when you will need a set of scales that are just a little bit shorter or a lead wedge. I also like to make smaller razors for feminine hygene. See the Coochie razor thread.
The only parts that I throw away are the pins.

To add to Rons post, remember these things are concrete soluble if they hit the garage floor, they are gone!

A lame (sometimes pronounced Lah may) is a razor used to slash the top of a loaf just before it goes into the oven. Naturally, the bread must be home made sourdough, or don't bother

A little Genco gold seal jr. I fouled up does bread duty like a champ.

Yup, concrete is like quicksand to washers

My wife is a wind chime freak so a creative friend of mine threw together some wind chimes from old straight razor blades & scales. Makes a nice conversation piece and they sound great IF you like wind chimes. Here's a set he put together below.

I recently bought a busted razor. Knew it was busted when I bid on it. The scales look pritty.

Here's a good example of a razor clock. It too was made by the same fella who made the wind chimes. His clock looks better than some rotations I've seen! He also made me a set of custom steak knives from straight razor blades ~ best steak knives I've owned.

Well, my question would be, does he sell these things and if so how much are they? By the way. I hope he doesn't live near me.

I have purchase a few "junk" razors. A couple had no scales and barely looked like straights. I will say that the have been great for practicing refinishing. I have 3 straights that need refinishing. I'm a little scared to start on them. I'm afraid I my ruin them with my inexperience. So I've been practicing on the "junk" ones. I would recommend this to anyone new that wants to learn to refinish. I would have definitely destroyed the ones I have been saving.
