Solid metal scales
What's the deal on these? Thinking of picking up my second straight razor, and I was thinking how cool it would be to have a very heavy, solid razor due to solid metal scales. Are they out there? Expensive?
Thanks,
Patrick

No, I really wouldn't advise it, the balance is awful. I myself had steel scales on a Wapienica and had to rescale it due to balance issues that were ruining the shave. Not to mention it was difficult to strop.

Oooh that looks nice. Would I have any luck looking for an older one, maybe a refinish for sale here for around $75? I do prefer the vintage looking razors over the modern ones.

Thanked: 13245Patrick:
I would seriously heed Scipio's advice, the un-balanced situation is a bear to strop, hone, and shave with...
That being said, I probably have a few sets out in the shop, that people could not wait to get off their razors... You can have a set for the cost of the shipping to you just PM me if you want them...

I appreciate the advice, but being hardheaded I might try it. PM coming. Now where do I learn how to switch scales properly? Time to do some homework...

That would be this gentleman Straight Razor Place Forums - View Profile: shutterbug
& I agree the best thing to do with metal scales is "aerate' them with lots of free space. That lightens em up.The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Can anyone point me towards a thread or video showing how to switch scales? I'd appreciate it.
