Default Cast Steel Razor Question about ID, please

Hi all, I am curious about a Cast Steel razor I am currently enjoying very much. The tang looks just like I would think a cast steel should look, or is it a poor grinding job? Also if anyone has a clue to the maker. I am not selling it but would not mind knowing who may have made it. 1830s??

The shave off this old blade is much smoother than any of my newer (1890s-1930s) blades, and I feel converted to wedges. any help would be appreciated. Alex

I am very new to straight razors.

However, I'm impressed a cast razor would do a well. Just knowing how cast material behave I'm surprised it would hold an edge.

I'm gonna guess that is most likely pitting which was left behind after rust and/or devil's spit was removed.

And who's to say whether or not these razors are actually the type of "cast steel" we think of today? Maybe that was just marketing, like all the vintage "damascus" blades.

You may be thinking of cast iron. Cast steel is also known as crucible steel & a different animal of very high quality.

I am gonna keep track of the number of shaves for me too, this could be fun. And what the heck is devils spit. But I see you point, I was thinking of cast iron with the irregular grain with some voids.
