Thanked: 3164Hi,
James Croisdale was a cutler - in the early 1900s he had a shop at No. 36 Briggate in Leeds - a busy shopping street with a hatters on one side and a drapers shop on the other.
Whether he made the razors or not I don't know, but I think not - he was probably just the retailer, having his own mark placed on them. The blade looks like a typical Sheffield blade of the time - a lot of them had the small round "Special Steel" mark on the blade itself.
Croisdale's also sold other items, such as books, games compendiums, chess sets, etc.
By 1935 the same premises was occupied by James Nichols, a printer.
Above is a picture of Briggate. Suttons on the corner is at No. 33. Nos 33 - 36 is now a McDonalds restaurant.
Regards,
Neil
