What is Fluid Steel?
This definition, here: steel definition says "Higher amounts of carbon make the steel more fluid and castable, and lower amounts make it purer for specialized purposes such as electrical steel and stainless steel."
So, it's easier to cast. Anyone know how this enhances (or detracts from) the properties we look for in a great blade?

Any chance you're looking at a Genco razor?
They have a model that's named 'fluid steel'. I think it's nothing more than a model name, but I used one this morn. 'Like most Gencos, they are exquisite shavers. Also like most Gencos, they're unadorned, plain jane, daily drivers - nothing special to look at. But those shaves & the way it takes & holds an edge usually endears them to anyone that's used one.
If it is a Genco fluid steel you're looking at, and you don't like the looks, I'd be happy to take care of it for you

I think "Fluid steel" was simply a marketing term by Genco.
The properties of a great blade are greatly influenced by the smith but high carbon = high hardenability. Skynet technology notwithstanding JimThe white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Marketing or no, the term "fluid steel" makes me think of a steel that is more malleable at room temperature than pure steel. So it likely just sounds cooler than "softer."

When you market a product you want it to stand out over the competition and in a time when there were no regulations governing this stuff you could say anything you wanted for a product. Combine that with the folks of the day who had little science understanding you could make something up and make it sound very logical.

I want a blade made with Flux Capacitance steel. Shaves so clean the whiskers go back in time.
I have seen several different takes on the name. Fluid steel, cast steel, best cast steel, etc. Brings up thoughts of the blade blank being cast verses the old bar stock and grind it to shape.
