    Default Anyone recognize this logo

    Hi,

I picked up an ebay razor in good restorable shape. I need a little help identifying it.

One side of the tang says Garantie Solingen and the Number 23.

The other has the logo below. Anyone know who made this?

    Thanks,
    Doug

Garantie is probably the manufacturer.. if you look at this thread ( Revisor Solingen: Update of the rarities of the week - Straight Razor Place Forums ) there is another one with that name on it.

Garantie in German means "Warranty" or "Guarantee". I think that is "Guaranteed from Solingen"(or "Guaranteed of Solingen quality"). An expert could say more on this.

The funny thing is, I have a Swedish J.A. Hellberg razor with almost the same mark etched into the blade with "Skydds Märke"("Registered Trademark" in swedish) etched beneath it. Maybe it a logo used by various cutlers to signify a common thing. But again, you need an expert on razor companies.

The razor was made by Friedrich Ern, Solingen-Weyer. Don't muss with С.Friedrich Ern.

Yes, of course. It's a good Solingen company.
Fritz Bracht, who in 1940 became the owner of Dorp & Voos (DOVO), before the WWI (in which he participated), he studied in Friedrich Ern company.

Thanks for the great info, Alex. I'll post pics in the gallery when I'm done cleaning it up.

Ern made good razors. They made some of the Craftsman marked razors for Sears & Roebuck as did Koeller, another excellent brand. IME if it has Solingen stamped on it and it is vintage it will be good 99 times out of a hundred.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
