J. Johnson Razor
Hey fellas, I found an interesting razor today, and need some help. I'm at work and can't post any pics, but I'll try to describe it the best I can. It's a big meat chopper with black horn scales, and a lead wedge. On the tang is stamped an oval that says 'J. JOHNSONS UNIVERSALLY APPROVED RAZOR', it has a thumb notch, and a fairly short monkey tail. Now here's the intriguing part, blade is covered in what seems to be Masonic symbol etchings: a sun and moon with faces, a constellation containing 7 stars, what appears to be a staff with a serpent, an arch with a six pointed star inside it, a compass and square, and many other things that I can't quite make out.
Any ideas what I have here? Age? Country of origin, I assume England? Can any Masons out there share the meaning of any of these symbols?
Thanks a lot, I can't wait to hear from you guys!Last edited by chay2K; 11-05-2010 at 01:01 AM.

I'd say you can be pretty certain she's a Sheffield razor. I don't know what the symbols mean, other than that they are Masonic. A photo would help for guessing at the age.
