Thanked: 5Well, how much I've spent in the last month (I assume 1 month = 30 days) it's difficult to estimate, because it's been so much, I've lost track.
Mmmm...I'm guessing around $5K. Maybe more, maybe less.
A boat load of razors for both shaving, as well as the razors that will go into the display case I'm working on.
A complete set of Nortons, Naniwas, 2 coticules, and 2 J-nats.
A 60X-2000X microscope with 5 mp camera.
Several badger brushes, as well as a lot of soaps, creams, aftershave, and cologne.
And a bunch of other stuff that I can't remember. (I already have my shop set up, though, so no shop tooling. Mmmm...I spent over $50K on my machine shop, so it's already pretty well equiped).
It's been expensive, but I've had a LOT of fun slicing and dicing my face! (I've come to the conclusion that I'm REALLY masochistic! I've never had so much fun watching myself bleed.).
Mikael has since perked my interest in Cuban cigars. It looks like that is going to be really expensive!! (At least razors and their accessories don't go "up in smoke").

Thanked: 5Well, I guess that's true. Lol! But, I'm single, no kids, and retired; and I'm not going to be able to "take it with me." If I had a family, I'm sure my choices would have been very different.

Thanked: 443Too much but
I've just graduated to full-time straight shaving, after years of only doing it on weekends when I had time to clumsy around with my subpar razors.
OK, this might include October too, but it's been the same "purchasing cycle."
New SS Dovo with ebony scales
Lynn's DVD
DMT 325 hone
Brush stand
Norton 4k/8k hone
Spyderco UF hone
Antique-store Carbo-Magnetic
The total? A chunk.
The experience? Priceless.
I've got a nice collection of hones (including a Coticule) from previous life and family trickledown. But I am drawn to hones like Kubrick's monkeys to the monolith. Help, help me!"These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."

But what did I save?
I may be justifying, like my wife used to about shoe sales, but I get money back.
I'll spend money on what interests me. I've spent my share of cash on other projects, mostly bikes.
I love the relatively smaller dollars, and project size of a razor. Spending four hours on a razor is far Le$$ than spending four hours on a motor.
My glass is more than half full.
Doesn't matter what I'm doing, If I'm to fill out a spread sheet for what I 'spend'....then time for a new hobby.

I haven't spent a dime. Use the same 2 razors I always use. Didn't buy any new soap or aftershave or anything like that.
I'm about to invest in another hone though (4k/8k), a nose hair trimmer, and another bottle of aftershave, which will run about 100 bucks. Most of that is the hone though (75). The aftershave will last me 5-6 months, and the nose hair trimmer is long overdue and should last a lifetime just like my razors.
