Thanked: 0Old Universal by Landers Frary and Clark
So I just picked up this vintage razor from someone on ebay, and I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion about whether or not it would be worth sharpening up for a shave. It's pretty unique for the time period, which I believe was in the twenties, as it's a replaceable blade. Ivory handle, all in all in pretty good shape.
Let me know what you guys think!

Don't know about the quality of the blade, but I really dig the style of the tail on it!

I really like unusual designed straights like that. I've got a Swiss frameback with replaceable blades and it's a really good shaver. I'd hone it up and shave with it.

Wow. I've not seen many compared to most on this board but that's a first for me!!!
I love it, but tough call on the restore. Do you want to sell it? Does your "stable" rotate horses often? If the answer is no then hone that thing up and get some mileage out of it!!!!!!!!!!!! If the answer is yes; I have no clue as to what it'll do for the monetary value.
Now you have to go on the life-long hunt to find some other blades!!! (At least I would have to! haha)

These came cased with a spare blade in a protective sleeve and a "safety guard" attachment for the shavers' protection, These blades are not meant to be disposable, but can be honed and stropped like an ordinary straight razor. So, if the OP still has his razor, tune it up as you would any straight and give it a go. Without the safety guard you might be surprised by the shave you get. LF&C used pretty good steel in all of their razors.

I have this same razor, it sharpens up well. I would be interested in finding the box with the attachments and extra blade.

I have one similar that I picked up, but I haven't done anything otehr than put it with some of my framebacks. Let us know how it shaves.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.
