Default Another bad cut not me the razor

A little history on my shaving stuff. Ive got 10 or 15 razors a few strops a barbers hone a few brushed and a couple soaps. Maybe 125$ tied up in this whole collection so im not really dealing with top quality stuff. I cant tell how sharp a razor really is regardless of what test i use. I can tell if its sharp of if it isnt. Ive never had a honed razor so ive got nothing to compare it to. The razor i use the most came out of a drawer. I stropped and used. Im happy so far with my shaves with the exception of this razor. This is the third time ive used it and the third cut ive had. This one is the worse. It is a smaller blade than I normally use. Blade looks good and it seems to be sharp as can be. Razor has been used alot and has spin wear. Any ideas why I cant shave with it? Its a henckels "gloria" 4/8"

Sorry, but it is you. Whether your razor is ultra sharp, completely dull, or anything in between, the only way you can cut yourself that way is with improper technique.

Have you used any other 4/8 razors? I acquired one a short time ago and I have a devil of a time with it. I think it is the small size that may make it more sensitive to angle/good technique (neither of which I am stellar with ) but no matter how I slice it, I am awful with the smaller one. It's funny how much of a difference 1/8" can make. I am fine with 5/8 or 6/8, but the 4/8 yields abysmal results. Maybe you have similar experiences?

To me it seems that the smaller the razor, the easier it is to draw blood. It might be that I'm used to the larger ones, and just need practice.
But it might also be that a smaller blade gets angled wrong, faster. By the time you realize it's the wrong angle you've been carved like a turkey.
Whichever it is, going slower, and more practice will eliminate weepers- as long as it truly is sharp.

Ive got another 4/8" but its dull. Still shaves though. It could be its dull enough to shave hair but not sharp like it should be. This one may be sharp like it should. It does feel awkward in my hand. Now that you mention it I really didnt think about the size actually being the problem. Must just be a clumsy hand.

I don't find that odd at all.

1.) You shave with an unknown razor and for whatever reason you get cut.
2.) Being new-ish, you have little ability to correctly identify the reason for the cut.
3.) Being human, you neeeeed a reason, but, (being human), you know it can't be you.
4.) The only conclusion, therefore, is that "This is the razor that cuts me".

From there you're pretty much doinked. That razor is just always going to be the bad razor that harms you.

The good news is this will all go away, (based on the time stamp of your original post), in about a week. It's not that that razor will stop cutting you, it's just that your beginner's luck with all your other razors is about to run out.

    Welcome to SRP.

I can't see with the pic but is it possible your razor has a nick in the balde? If so I believe* this could be a cause.

Also it will really pay off to send one of your razors to get honed by one of the guys in the classified to find out what your missing.

    * disclaimer I'm still pretty new so I'm not an authority

If there is a nick in your blade, most likely this will show up as scratches on your strop.
