Thanked: 0New razor choices
I am looking at getting a new straight and I have come down to two razors. I am just looking for some input form those of you with a bit more experience or may have used either of them. The two choices I have come down to are:
BOKER KING CUTTER 5/8
DOVO EBONY SPIKE POINT 5/8"
-both from SRD of coarse
I am totally at a loss as to which would be better for a beginner.
I personally like the wooden handle of the Dovo (my wapi has synthetic scales and im not sure about the feel of them) but the spike point throws me off a little.. It looks cool!! but is a bit intimidating.
However, I feel that the Boker maybe a superior blade overall..
Little help??

Thanked: 275FWIW --
I have a bias against spike points for beginners, based on my own blood.
Aside from that:
. . . Neither razor is "extreme" -- they're middle-of-the-road designs.
It won't make much difference which one you get. They'll both shave nicely.

Thanked: 983Dovo gets my vote...And I'm not a spike fan! Just learn early to watch your blade, as all of us have to do anyway.

I don't think you could go wrong with either one of them, both are good razors. Pick the one that appeals to you the most. In time I'm sure you will purchase the other one.

I agree get the one you like the most. I personally would get the Dovo only because they have been around longer as opposed to the new Bokers, well new manufacture with old name.

They are both good. With a spike point just pay attention to where the point is at all times. Especially when you are coming down your sideburn in front of your ear. If you haven't already done so read Lynn's suggestions for the first straight razor shave here . Also read my sig below to avoid nicks and cuts.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

If you are new I would avoid the Spike point for a while. I am new also and used one a bit too soon and have the scar to prove it.

Thanked: 0Thank you all for your input, I think I will go with the Dovo but I will pick a non-spike point model... for the sake of my face.

The reviews say both are good, it really depends on your taste. Personally, I have no experience with a Dovo and until I try one won't voice my opinion. I did try a Boker a while back, loved the shave so well I now have seven of them, each one different and all shave great.

New Razor Choices
Hello, Dano:
I have both razors.
The Dovo is an attractive razor. My Boker King Cutter, however, gives me a far superior shave. If it were my choice, I would wink at the Boker.
What's important is which of the two draws your wink.
Regards,
