Default Packwoods Superior Damascus Fine Steel

Packwoods Superior Damascus Fine Steel razor. Extremely limited information about the maker. According to the previous owner - honing nightmare. Spanish point, 13/16 razor. I would guess pre 1830 for sure, 1800-1820?

    Really nice razor.
Packwood is listed as Unknown maker from Sheffield in many sources.
The razor looks like pre 1830.
But the tang ... Such tangs were 1830-1845.

Congrats on a very nice and unique find. Some of these older razors can be a real bear to hone especially the ones where the spine is not parallel with the edge. I've honed more than a few of this type and it has become easier to spot if you know what to look for. Hope you get many years of service ont of this razor.

I have a John Shepherd that is similar.

Earlier blade shape and an identical tail. Same, nearly straight scales, too.

    I don't think so.

Yeah, I know. Still, not a straight shape to the blade. It has an earlier curve to it and a straight spine. Like they are trying to meld the earlier and modern blades shapes.

Nearly straight scales and that tail.

But, that is why I said similar, not identical.
