Default Dovo Shavette - pretty darn good

Momma was hassling me for another gift idea for Xmas and I thought up the idea of a DOVO shavette. She ordered it for me - the stainless handled one with the red insert for a standard double edged razor blade.

I loaded it up with half of a Derby razor blade and have shaved twice with it so far. You know that thing does a really good job. I think it is really close and maybe on par with a straight razor as far as sharpness.

I don't like the weight or feel of it. It's too light and flimsy feeling and does not have the weight or stability of a straight. I also do not find it as secure in the hand as a straight. It has a small plastic section on the tang but that is harder to hold onto for me than a straight.

Overall I think this is a viable alternative to a straight. If you do not want to strop or worry about honing it is something to explore. It is probably also good when travelling since you do not have to worry about stropping. I'm pretty impressed with it and the quality of the shave that I have gotten with it so far.

I've shaved three times with the same half blade so far and it is still going strong. If nothing else it is a very economical alternative.

Results are still very good. I'll go back to my straight when I finish of this first blade but let me tell you that I'm surprised at how well that thing shaves. It will definitely become my travelling razor of choice replacing my Gillette travel double.

I'm using a Shavette currently until i am able to get a real proper straight. Of course i don't have anything else to compare it to but i really like it so far.

Well after a weeks worth of shaving and five shaves I am impressed with this little thing. For me the technique is the same as with a straight. I think the quality, this shavette with derby blades, shaves as welll for me as my straights. I don't think it will replace them but it works really well for me.
