Default ID Help on what appears to be a German

    Hello all,

I found this razor at an estate sale, and am hoping someone can help identify it.

There is no makers mark. The only stamp on the tang is the number 136, and there doesn’t appear to be any grind marks indicating any removal of stamping.

The etch on the blade says, “Feinster Silber Stahl”. It’s 1/8” thick and is a hair over 5/8”. The blade length is 2 15/16”. What’s interesting is that the blade looks to at one time have extended beyond the spine forward of the barber’s notch.

    Any help is appreciated.

I ran a search of Feinster, and there were a bunch of hits. Don't have time to look through for info at the moment, but I think that's the brand name.

    Thanks, I'll do the same.

I just thought it meant "fine silver steel".

I think you're right. I know silber stahl means silver steel and I just threw 'Feinster' into babelfish and it translates 'more finely'. So it probably means 'Finest'.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

It certainly does. In german. No maker's mark tho, so hard to say much about manufacturer.

In following up your example and doing a search, I found several that had that marking.
