    Default Iwasaki

I first started Str8 shaving because I was intrigued with Japanese str8's. I bought an Iwasaki and tried to shave with it. Not good results. Put it away and bought a western str8, and started using it. Been shaving with a str8 for a few months now, and my only sharp str8 went dull on me a week in a half ago, so I broke out the Iwasaki and tried it again now that I have some experience. Shaved a lot better this time, but pulled some. I didn't strop it. Next shave I stropped in, and wow, what a smooth shave. Next shave, the same. I'm really starting to like my Iwasaki razor. I may have to get a few more of these type of razors.

I just recently shaved with an old stock Kamisori for the first time after almost a year of shaving with a western style straight. It was a unique experience.

The dominant-hand side of my face (right) was bbs after literally one pass. I was amazed at how sharp this little razor was and how it wiped away my beard with ease.

However, on the non-dominant side of my face (left), I could not get a smooth shave in some parts.

I did flip the razor and shave with both sides, so I think it is an angle issue. I will definitely try again, but I am intrigued by these razors and am also looking to purchase another.

On the off side I think I had to put the razor almost flat to my face, but I got a close shave on both sides. I wish they would make these things in a right and left hand versions, so I could have one for each side of my face.

All it takes is practice. Many of us shave with one side as designed and I'm left handed. It's just like learning to shave all over again and for an experienced straight shaver having difficulty learning to use a kamisori can be a humbling experience.
