    Default Carl Rader Solingen ?

Hello folks; I was given this razor by my barber. I've found some info on the name but was wondering the approximate age if possible.

On the tang there is a "5" with the name Carl Rader and "Solingen". There is also flags with an anchor. It measures real close to 7/8 wide. Here are some pics.

I have a Rader and it is an outstanding shaver. I don't know anything about the outfit however there were so many really small operations making razors many really don't have any recorded history other than a location and start and stop date.

I can't say exactly, when the razor was made. But the razor was made before 1957. In 1957, Carl Rader joined DOVO.

It looks pretty good for what the pictures show. Taking good pictures of shiny things is an art to itself. Do a Google search for light box. I made one out of a cardboard box and tissue paper. Also use a tripod or some way to stabilize the camera. You can see some of my pics in the 'Show and Tell' and the 'Custom Builds and Restoration" forums. Good luck!

    Thumbs up

I was able to hone this razor up today and give it a go. It went through 3 days growth with no problems at all. The lack of feedback was interesting, it was silent with no feedback compared to all but my couple of wedges. I wasn't sure on the size, it is huge compared to my next largest, but now I can see why folks take a liken to these big boys.

    It's definitely a keeper.

I just picked up one on ebay looks in stellar condition Im waiting for it to arrive from Italy. The seller says hes not sure of production date but thinks its around 1964. However based on whats written above it seems it would have to have been made on or b4 1957. Correct ??

Yes, Carl Radar was purchased by Dovo in 1957, so the razor has to be made prior to the take over.
