Thanked: 0I am New at this and need help!!
I found this razor at an estate sale I picked it up for a dime Good purchase! I want to know if someone ccan tell me if it is useable. The blade has a chip out of it by the handle this razor doesn't fold. Who ever owned it before put the blade in a Piece if antler. All I want to know if with some work can it be used again? And if it is worth anything as a collectible or antique could someone tell me. Thank you very much for any and all help.

Reagress or nit if it can be fixed it's a beautiful piece. However, the balde will need quite a bit of work, but I'm positive with all the heavy hitters around here there is a handful of people that could make it happen... You've come to the right place!

Looks like someone made a broken razor into a kitchen knife. I'd wager that the tang was cut back as well.
The brush can be refinished and have a new knot installed, making it as good as new.
Welcome to SRP!I strop my razor with my eyes closed.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. There are so many far better options than attempting to fix something like this.

Thanked: 13245That is probably a Patch Knife...
Many older razors were turned into "Patch Knives" they are used to cut the Silk or Linen patches for shooting Black Powder rifles...
That of course is JMHO...

I'm not an expert on this restoration business but I would side with Glen on this one. That WAS once a razor and then - after a drop to the floor... - refurbished and turned into a knife of some sort. Plus, I would figure that shaving with such an handle would be rather strange and, in my opinion, not a very good way to learn the trade. You'll have better options in what concerns razors.
However, it is a very, very interesting item. I see it as a living testimony of the good old resourcefullness that people used to have - nothing was disposable. Even a broken razor would find another use somehow...
Anyway - thak you for sharing and welcome to SRP!

I would definitely keep the "knife" as is; that's a cool piece of history. Too bad the blade was broken, as that would have been a beautiful razor.
For the brush, you could reknot it, but personally I'd just pick up something new. Then again, I'm not all that into brushes, so a vintage handle doesn't float my boat.
