Questions
Hello to all, this is my first post. And wanted to say that Im glad I found this site. Helping to answer a lot of questions. But I wanted to know if the razor I purchased is a good one. It says Giesen & Forsthoff, Solingen Germany on the box and and also on the tang. It also has #306 Timor on the tang and Timor on the blade itself. The box also says Hamburg Ring, what's that? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to SRP. If it is in good condition with little or no hone wear, full bladed, no chips, cracks or corrosion it ought to be a good one once it is shave ready. Are you shaving with straight razors yet ?
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 4942If this is one of the new Timor's with the black tang, in my opinion, they are not very good razors. They are hard to hone and don't keep an edge long if you can get one. Not a fan of these at all. The old vintage Timor razor was a nice shaver, again, in my opinion.
Have fun,
Lynn

No, I have not had the pleasure of shaving yet! I purchased it last night off eBay. From the pics it appears to be in very good condition. It was advertised as brand new never used. I figured I would take it some where and get it professionaly sharpened. That way no guesses!!! If its shave ready all the better! Is this a good one for a beginner or junk?

Lynn it apprears to be a older one. The tang is not black it is bare steel. The box in the pics does show some age to it. So I take it's a good one?
