    Default Blade is loose

    Hi Guys:

The blade of my razor is loose. What I mean is that the blade swings freely out of the scales. If the razor is closed and I pick it up, the blade will swing out and be exposed unless I consciously pick it up with my thumb pressed against the spine. I think the pins may need to be tightened???? I haven't used a traditional straight in many years but I remember years ago my razors would close pretty tightly and not swing open so easily. The only problem with this loose blade is that when stropping it is hard to keep the spine on the strop when turning the blade over for the next pass. I also had the blade swing down and hit a finger while i was drying it which thankfully didn't draw blood.

Is there a way for me to tighten the blade, or is this normal and you want the blade to swing pretty freely? The razor (a Dovo) is only 2 months old.

As always, thanks for any help and suggestions.

Glad to see you here and posting. Here is an article in the Wiki that explains the whole pinning process (there are some videos at the bottom as well). You don't need to unpin your razor (unless there are other issues like bent pins) to tighten it up. Treat it like you are finishing the pins in the article. I hope this helps.

    Cheers!
