    Default Storing Carbon Steel Razors

Up to now, before putting a razor away somewhere safe, I have always given the scales an "internal" with a bit of tissue and the razor a wipe over with a piece of unwashed chamois leather to distribute hopefully some of the oil it was chrome-tanned in. So far so good.
I doubt though that this would offer much protection should I not use it for any length of time, and have read here that a smear of mineral oil works well --3in1?, and does not discolour the blade (gold washed) as vegetable oil may.
What about WD40? Far better I ask you than make an unholy howler, so in advance, my grateful thanks to you.
