Space Between End of Blade and Wedge
I've been noticing on many vintage razors that there is a small space between the end of the blade and the wedge; for example, my "new" Droescher has about a 2/8 gap and same with my Antoni Tadross.
Is this something that was common at any point? Obviously new blades and customs seem to close almost perfectly near the wedge.
Does this, in most cases, mean there has been some sort of work done to the blade or a rescale? In my cases I would never think this, the toes look perfect and they seem to be in original scales.

Look at a new TI and there is sometimes 1/4 inch or even more
The distance was determined by the scale maker,, you have to understand that many razor companies didn't make their own scales, and they wanted the scales to fit as many razors styles as possible so the "Fit" varies quite a huge amount from next to nothing, to quite a bit...
On the reverse the scale maker also wanted their scales to fit many razors so they built in a bit of slop too...
Now, Yes those of us that build custom scales like a "Tight fit" because it is after all a custom set of scales....
On vintage 1/8 -1/4 inch is about normalLast edited by gssixgun; 02-12-2011 at 11:37 PM.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware how the process worked for mass produced razors.
I once was told that the space between was sometimes an indicator that the blade had been rescaled or cut down which is why I asked. It seemed to be very common and I couldn't imagine so many of the razors I was looking at had been cut or rescaled.
