They look great, Jim. Have you shaved with one of them yet?

The sharp angled barbers notch and sharp angled tail of the crown look mean! Great family history. Enjoy, and I hope future generations enjoy!

What nice story! Did your family come from Sweden/scandinavia, from the beginning? I´ve got a box exactly like that... I´ll try and remember to take a pic tonight. Thanks for sharing a lovely story!!

They looked nice prior to clean up, down right gorgeous now. Thanks for the share.
I really believe a lot of the problems kids have today is because they have no sense of heritage to develop personal pride and integrity. I worked as a Juvenile Corrections Officer before becoming a pastor and so many kids didn't know a thing about what it meant to be a "Smith" or "Halverson" or what have you. For me, growing up there was a sense of taking pride in who you came from; including the "ugly/black sheep" ancestors that the family had risen from/overcome. I definitely want to pass that on to my kids.

That's the oldest razor, in terms of owned/used by the furthest generation from me (I really don't know if it's older or newer than the Leader owned and used by the next generation down). It will probably be the one I use last in hopes that I'll gain enough confidence not to accidentally chip it on the sink or something, but I may be too anxious and have to try it out earlier than that.

Yes and no. Great Great Grandpa was from England but I believe it was his wife who was a Svenson from Sweden and that box may go back up that branch for all anybody who's still alive knows. Interestingly, my grandmother who gave me the box and razor is half Swede: Soderstrom on her mom's side. I'd love to see pics of your box!

Very common Swedish names for sure, Svensson prob being the most common name in Sveden. Söderström is a classic too though . My box has no nails/iron in it, just made of wood, the bottom part is in one piece, as far as I can tell).

There's one brass screw in the end of mine that serves as the pivot for the lid. The rest of it is carved from a single piece of hardwood...even the woodgrain in the lid matches the grain into the handle. Your lid and handle are a little different though. I don't know how they would have cut the lid on yours...that's beyond my meager woodworking skills. That said, I've set out to replicate my Great Great Grandfather's box in order to store my other razors and have something I can pass down to each of my kids (Daughter, Son, and Son on the way...any day now). I'd like to engrave the names of the men who've owned/passed on these razors on the inside of the lid so they have a record.

Beautiful razors Jim, I especially love that Crown and Sword, and what a great story! Enjoy them in good health.

Mine got a wooden plug as pivot. They do have something incommon, re design, but I think yours got more class . Great idea to repålicate it too!! Good luck!
