Default Crown & Sword 1720 Solingen?

    Hello,
I posted pics up of my "new" razor on the beginner's forum, and many people commented that it looked nice, and for $10, it was probably a good deal.
Just out of curiosity, is there any way that I can tell when and where this bad boy was made? I remember seeing somewhere on here that just because it says that it was made in Germany doesn't mean that it actually is, and also it's better if it was "forged" in Germany. I'm just wondering what you guys think of this razor. If it sucks, I'd like to know, and if it's a gem, I'd like to know that too! If anyone is interested, it is on the way to get honed by someone listed in member services. Thanks! - Jim

I don't know the specifics of where the C&S was made, but I have several of them and they are all excellent shavers. So at minimum I can tell you that they do not suck.

If it is stamped "Solingen" then it's original quality is assured since these razors were held to higher standards than a razor just stamped "Germany". The variables will lie in its use/abuse between the time it left the factory until it ended up in your hands.

    Regards - Walt

    Walt,
If I remember right, it's stamped "germany." It's in for honing, so I'll let you know when it comes back. Thanks - Jim

As I can see at your pictures. You have nice razor, made by one of the famous Solingen makers, Carl Friedrich Ern.
In the WIKI you can find some info
    , unfortunately, it doesn't work now.=(
    I have the similar razor

This is my first straight. It's not the most attractive looking thing, but it gets the job done every day!

I also have a 1720 ERN Crown & Sword. I have not had the pleasure of shaving with it yet, but I just shipped it off to local forumite Glen(gssixgun), for a polishing, honing and rescaling. I can't wait to get it back. Here it is as I received it...
