Thread: Help with a choice

I am shopping for my third (really only my second usable) straight razor. I am looking a the razor and strop combinations at SRD. I have it narrowed down to the Boker Edelweiss and the Dovo imitation tortoise. They are both 5/8 razors so, to me, they are comparable. Which one would be the better choice in your opinions?

If I could only choose between the two, I would choose the Boker set.

Either one will serve you faithfully.

I have a Boker & a Dovo and they are both great shavers. I don't think you can go wrong with either. That being said, IMHO I would get the Dovo. I like the edge I get on my Dovo better than I get on my new production Boker (please understand this is just my opinion, my new production Boker shaves nicely, just not as smooth as my Dovo). Either way, I'm confident you'll like whichever you choose.

I'm quite new to straight shaving, but I have the Boker you are looking at and love it. It is very well built and shaves quite nicely.

Fair warning, I haven't shaved with any dovo's so all I can say is you can't go wrong with the Edelweiss.

at this point whichever is more appealing to you. quite likely that in the future you'll get the other as well and then you can compare for yourself and decide if you want to keep both/one/neither.
