I believe that straight razor shaving will grow for some time and then it will decrease again. On the moment SR shaving would become popular then Gillette would start producing them.

It'll grow but never be mainstream. Which is a good thing, more for us, right?

Thanked: 235Straight razor shaving will go through waves of popularity where many people decide it is cool and buy everything they can get their hands on. But only one or two of these people will stick with it. In the end Straight razor shaving will remain a neiche thing with an ever so slowly increasing popularity.

I like Straight razors precisely because they are not mainstream.

I created this thread because I wanted to play the devil's advocate card of straight razor futures by saying "what if" and "if so". That being said, my personal opinion of the matter is this. I think straight razors will continue to increase in popularity to a certain point. I think more websites will be created that sell the different supplies. I also think that straight shaving is popular enough that Lynn and Don could open more Imperial Shaving stores if they want to. I do not think they will be sold at the big super stores, and I'm glad for that. Besides, I like the fact that straights razor shaving belongs to a fairly small group. If everyone was using a straight razor, it would not be special.

I doubt there will be many more big brands back on the market
Those produsing now seem to sell enough to keep produsing but i think one more big supplyer would be able to fill any shortage there may be
I got one person to start with a straight till now and one that said what about the kids...
Any suggestions on how to convinse him?

What about the kids? ANY razor, and I mean ANY razor can cut a child. My daughter (2 at the time) got a hold of one her mom's cartridges and cut her lip...it wasn't severe, but it bled. We've got knives in our kitchen, cleaning supplies in our cabinets, and electrical outlets in EVERY room! The kids are only relatively safe; and most of that is because we have taught them not to stick fingers in outlets, grab the knives when the dishwasher's open, or play with things in the bathroom drawers.
We keep the things that pose a threat to our kids in safe places where they're less inclined to get into them; that was as true for my Schick Hydro as it is for me Crown and Sword. Keep 'em in a box in the cabinet on the top shelf with your aftershave you don't want them drinking, etc. It's also the same thing I do with my utility knives, pocket knives, etc.
On another line of thought; everyone's got their own philosophy on parenting, etc. But personally I think it's better for kids to be exposed to things by the parents and in their parent's presence. I.E.: My dad taught me about guns and taught me to shoot, so I grew up with a healthy respect for firearms. Same with pocket knives, alcohol, and several other things. I'm already teaching my daughter (3 now) that Daddy's razors are very sharp, and we don't want to play with them our they will hurt us really bad. She seems to get it, and my son (not yet two) is picking up on it too.
It's a danger sure, but more so than a million things already in the home? I don't think so.
Sorta OT I guess, but Str8 Shavers that don't share the joys of Str8 Shaving mean guys like Lynn, and companies like Dovo end up with a dwindling market.
