    Default My razor feels "loose"

    Hey guys,

It's been a long time since I've been around the forums. I bought a dovo bismark spike point from SRD and absolutely love it. But ever since I've had it I've noticed that it's been somewhat loose at the pivot point. almost as the the scales are separating at the pin. as of the last month or so I've noticed it's very loose, making it quite difficult to prep for my morning shaves on the strop as the scales don't like to stay straight in line with the blade as I move it. My dovo best Quality razor seems to be tight when held straight open for my morning prep. any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. I do have two free honing certificates from srd, is this something that would be looked at if I sent it in with that certificate?

One thing you may want to try is tapping the pivot pin with the back of a soup spoon. Test the tap on your thumbnail first. If you hurt your nail, you're tapping too hard. Lots of gentle taps on one side, then the other, may help to rectify your loose pin.

    Good luck.

I have the same situation with my Filharmonica.I will try tapping it with a spoon but if it does not work, does the razor have to be repinned?

Some of the pins will loosen up over time. If you can't tighten it, send it to me and I'll tighten it for you.

    Have fun,

    Lynn

Thanks Lynn! You truly are "the man". Ill shoot you a pm, I think I also heard mention of you relocating and to make sure I send the razor to the new location?

No. I'd move to a ballpein hammer or jewelers hammer, and continue tapping. There's a little more weight behind these taps, but you risk bending the pin if you go at it too hard.

I just "spooned" my Wacker the other day, and now my Wacker is nice and tight again!

I had the exact same problem a while back and Lynn offered me the same thing. Trust me, your problem has just been solved, Lynn will take care of it. When a razor goes into SRD, it comes out above & beyond what it went in for, you won't be dissapointed!

    YoungBuck,

Every Dovo razor I have had (save my Berg Lowe) has ended up with loose pins.

To boot, these razors (5 in all) all had bent pins, so couldn't really be tightened by further peening

IIRC the Dovo factory video shows the chappie that does the pinning going at it hammer & tongs

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

Thanks guys! I'll be sending my favorite blade to the ever so capable hands of Lynn. Just as soon as I finish cleaning my freshly flooded basement as of lastnight! gotta love 4 inches of snow melting when we get hours of rain to wash it all down the storm drains and into my basement.
