Thread: Recommendations Please

I bought my first razor a few weeks ago. The Dovo best quality 6/8. I love it, but now after getting bit by this bug I'm looking for something completely different so I can compare the feeling of different razors. After doing some research and understanding my inexperience, I'd like to stay away from spike points and extra hollow blades for now. I've read they might be too flexible for my novice hands. I do love the look of the Spanish point. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Check the classifieds and see what is lurking there. It doesnt matter what razor you buy if its quality, why restrict yourself?

I also recently got a Dovo 6/8, half hollow. If yours is also half, it will have a different feel than a full hollow. You will eventually want to try a full, and when they are honed properly, they will give a fantastic shave. I also have 5/8 and 11/16, and 13/16. In my opinion try a 5/8 and compare, but I probably will never have anything but a round point.

for something different you have the shoulderless dovo, the thiers-issards, but for completely different you'll probably have to go vintage. you can get smaller, biger, thicker, thumbnotched, shoulderless, and i guess that's about it if you want to stay from hollower grinds and stick with round points.

Go a vintage Sheffield blade. I have a couple in my rotation that still blow my mind on the hones and on the shaves.

Don't be afraid to get a spike point. If you see a razor that you like that has a spike point I say get it. You'll poke yourself maybe but everybody's going to at first. Get it over with now now IMO.

+1 on the vintage blade. Get yourself a spike point you will be very happy you did
