are the scales rank smelling or something? i have never seen pressed leather scales like these in person.. but to me it looks like they are still very usable.. why not keep them on this razor and just restore the blade?

I think it's a difference in monitors... On my computer at work they looked really dried out. Now,Looking on my phone they look pretty good.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

The scales are not dried out nor do they smell bad, In fact the leather is pretty good. What I am doing is , contacting a person who restores antique books in an effort to preserve them and have them brought to a more appealing state without doing anything radical. At present it's not something I can do and I wish to enjoy the use of this blade, so the for now I doing the blade and just using some simple scales until such a time as I can find someone who is qualified to improve their appearance in safe and respectful manner. leather scales are not something I have seen before and I was not certain they were leather when I acquired this blade. I wanted only to obtain further confirmation regarding the materials, not get beheaded for what others perceive as the bastardizing of a vintage razor. It's all pizza to me ...what person doesn't like another one loves and there are plenty of choices for everyone..... This forum has always been very kind to me in the past . But I certainly did not expect some of the responses I have received via the board or PM.

Ok guys a couple of things on this thread to everyone...

To the OP you DO NOT have to defend your position or reason to restore anything, it is your razor, and you can do anything you want with it... (if ya want another set of the leather scales, the ones I just yanked are yours for the asking)
    BUT
Keep in mind that some of what you are perceiving as hostility is most likely humor or at least could be...
Humor and innuendo do not always come across in this media so please everyone dial it back one notch and let's assume if something is typed can be taken two ways one is bad and one is good the the person posting means it the good way...

A pm to that person is a for sure way to find out

So let's everyone remember we are all here to enjoy this hobby and help each other out...

    Thanks the SRP Mod team
