    Default Razor ID?

    Greetings all,

I have been on here for a bit and have just now gotten around to posting.

I picked up a razor at an antique shop that I cannot identify. Hopefully someone can offer some information on it. It appears to be rather old, and the scales are wooden.

If these pictures are not enough, I can provide different angles if necessary.

It's hard to say, but it looks similar to this one: http://straightrazorpalace.com/custo...l-rebuild.html

    Thumbs up

It probably does say Warranted which meant they basically had permission to make razors

There are tons of different names that went with it...

It looks to be in the 1800-1820 time period though, nice old stub tail

I appreciate the replies. I can understand it probably does say Warranted there. Must be a lot of wear on it to dull it down that far.

I am going to attempt to hone this up to shave. Should there be any special considerations, given the apparent age of the blade?

Comparatively speaking these are a rather soft steel, you are going to probably need to use some tape to get the bevel under control... Other than that "Go Slow"
My goto hones on these are a 1-4-8 Norton then a Select Grade Coticule finish that allows for a ton of play room on getting everything cutting right...
You will probably find the the heel is either not beveled or ground out somewhat they are rarely in line with the rest of the edge... I am not sure why but most every one I have restored has maybe 3/4 of the blade that has a bevel and I have to work the other 1/4-1/3 into line...
I have always had this dumb theory that they used a spine clip to hone these old blades

    Nice.

As to honing and shaving with it....
