Stubble all the time
Anybody remember Miami Vice? I think when that show came out somebody had a razor that was supposed to shave you to a 5 o'clock shadow with every shave.
Now that this style seems to be the in thing, anybody know of a razor that does this? I've heard to use hair trimmers, but that doesn't really work. I could've sworn it was some kind of DE razor that was setup to not shave very close.
I've also heard to shave at night, but my STR8 and DE are so close I look just fine in the morning.
Thanks.

I think a trimmer would be the best bet. I know there are razor blades that have wire guards on them.

When I use an electric (foil) that's exactly what I get. I can shave all day and have that 5 o'clock look. Using a M@ch 3 or Sch!ck X will usually get me a nice 5 o'clock shave too. I think a DE or a Straight could never give you a 5 o'clock shave unless it was very dull, or had some sort of guard placed over it. Maybe a hair-dresser's razor?

You could use clippers with the guard off. That's all I can really think of.

I LOVED Miami Vice! All the beautiful ladies, the fast cars, the rock stars as sleazy drug dealers; it was perhaps one of the most sensually-appealing shows ever made. I learned to love the music of Peter Gabriel watching it too.
As for the Don Johnson look, yeah, I used a beard and mustache trimmer at one time for that. The best thing is just to let it grow for a few days, though. There are many roads to sharp.

Chuck Norris seems to always have the same lenght beard, so it must be a guard thing.
My wife has a straight razor that has disposable blades, and it has a guard (for hair) that might work.~~ Vern ~~
I was born with nothing and managed to keep most of it.

Electro trimmers
Yea before i had the idea to wanna use a straight razor and to this day all i have is a set of electric trimmers from walmart. I shave my face with the guard off and if you just shave without giving any pressure you can leave that shadow. Ive even used force and i have never cut myself. Im a new member but im positive this works

That little flip-up trimmer on the back of most electric razors will do the trick.

Some barbers have a "O" or "OO" clipper that is mostly
used to trim the sides and the back of the neck... It is
an expensive clipper but ask your barber. The Don Johnson
look is a good thing for those that can wear it. Especially
in the hot summer days where a 'too close' shave tends to
burn when working hard enough to sweat.
Way back when I could go to the barber and order
a OO, O or #1 hair cut. But that was the Army.

Thanked: 190A one WTG pass early in the morning, 6:00am, will give the 5 o'clock shadow look. Or using an elective shaver early in the morning usually does it well.
