New Boker's Edelweiss vs. King Cutter
I know I'm going to get some grief for looking into buying a new razor over a vintage/antique but here it goes.
Can anyone tell me the difference between the Boker Edelweiss and Boker King Cutter. The Edelweiss is about $22 more than the King Cutter and I'm pretty sure that it's the scale material causing the price difference but is one blade better than the other or is it just a name?
Thanks!Last edited by bmf2001; 03-09-2011 at 07:53 AM.

I have shaved with the new Edelweiss, and a vintage King Cutter. I don't have the new edition King Cutter, so please take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Both blades delivered superlative shaves. I dont think you can go wrong either way - it's a matter of what you want in scales.
The Edelweiss has bone scales, and they are a bit bulkier and heavier than regular celluloid handles. To me, the King Cutter feels a bit nimbler than the Edelweiss, but it's not a big adjustment to make.
I really enjoy shaving with both.

My personal opinion for what it's worth is that any vintage razor is better than any factory razor with the caveat they are both quality razors. I'm also not including modern custom grade pieces. I think in the old days they just had it all down better. Now that doesn't mean they both won't shave equally good but just in terms of overall quality I'd get the vintage.
That being said there is just something about getting a brand spanking new razor. Like getting a brand new pair of Cowboy Boots or I guess a new car over a used one.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I'd like to piggy-back off of this thread because it's similar to what I want to ask. I bought a new Edelweiss last year, but I'm thinking about getting another razor. Are the only differences between the King Cutter, Edelweiss, and Tree Brand the scales? The original poster didn't really get an answer to his question. Who knows the specifics about the steel of the blades? Are the blades on all three the same?

If I were you I would contact a vendor that sells the Boker line of Razors and ask them. I know SRD sells them. Give Don/Lynn a call and let us know what you learn.

Hello, bmf:
I have owned both the new Boker "Edelweiss" and the "King Cutter." I still have my "King Cutter," plastic scales and all, and love it. It's one of my top shavers. In my experience, the only difference in the two razors is the etching on the blade and the scales on the razor. I also have the old Boker "King Cutter," but that's another topic.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 461+ for Obie. I have both the new King Kutter and the Edelweiss and can"t tell the difference in shave quality. Both are great. Best, wildhog

I contacted Boker directly, and this is what they said:
All blades with 5/8" and made out of the Solingen razor steel
(non-stainless) are basically the same, only differing in different handles
and etched logos.
