    Default Question about Japanese framebacks?

Can anyone tell me a bit about Japanese framebacks? From what I understand, the Japanese framebacks use unground blade steel that is completely flat. Does anyone know how thick this steel is, and how wide the exposed blade is? Thanks.

Anyone? Hayashi Sidis, Hairops and such. Are the blades as thin as DE blades or much thicker?

They're much thicker than a DE. The same thickness as the Jacques Lecoultre frameback I have, I think. Maybe a hair thinner.

As far as exposed blade area, that depends on the maker and the age/use.

Thanks, any idea how thick that is in numbers? Unfortunately I don't own any framebacks for comparison.

I would guess somewhere between 2-3 times as thick as a DE blade. I'll try to dig one out and take a picture for you (might be a few days as much of my collection is displaced due to home improvements).
