Thread: Rust Prevention Treatment

GA is the same way. 97 to 100 percent humidity is not unusual here.
Everything must be oiled here or it rusts. I use mineral oil on my str8s, but will probably start using Ballistol, because I use it on my knives and it's a little thinner than straight mineral oil. I have used baby oil since it's just perfumed mineral oil.

I was unaware that it is so humid in HK. Perhaps a sealed or low-airflow box with desiccants would be a good idea.

Always dry with hot water and a paper tissue. Strop and apply Ballistol with a Japanese Apllier. So far so good...

I have taken to using a WD spray with high oil content & using a box with silica gel packs.
Humidity is 83% in Sydney today

Dessicant packs and oxygen absorbers should do the trick. Volatile corrosion inhibitors would also work, but I don't know what effect they would have on the handle materials.
I was watching a program that told that oxygen absorbers are just filled with rust. I'm thinking you could make your own using reusable cotton tea bags and rust made from degreased steel wool. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't comment on it's effectiveness.

Ive been using 3 in 1 with no ill effects I just wash the blade before using,also if I don't use it for a long time ,its ready for deep storage..my two cents.....

I've used 3 in 1 oil on knives and guns and never had one rust while protected with it.
Carnauba wax would be good too. I've used it on blued guns and it was great for keeping them from rusting.
