Thread: Expensive razor manufacturer?

Tim Zowada customs can be pretty pricey too. Herr Wacker's might be considered semi custom I guess. Of production razors TI limited editions and their damascus blades are up there in price. So is the Boker damascus. Vintage razors are like any other antique stuff. Some bring a high price others not at all. Different market.

Interseting. I didn't know Wacker was still being made. I recently found a site that sells J.A. Henckels as new, and offers also professional honing by none other than Lynn. Must be a busy guy!

Also is it Mastro or Maestro Livi? ... documentary DVD of Maestro Livi at work. (from web link) But the heading says "Mastro".

Heirbert Wacker is in his 80s. He is still, as far as I know, making straights but who knows for how much longer. Get 'em while you can.

There's really no rhyme or reason. It's all what someone wants to pay or how badly they want a particular razor. It has nothing to do with quality really. The most expensive ones are snapped up by collectors and the razor users spend for brands they perceive as being superior which doesn't mean they really are. No different than someone going and buying a Rolex because they think it's the best watch in the world.

I digress a little here but Around 10 years ago when I got my first Kamisori, a Tosuke my friend in Japan contacted Iwasaki about his razors and he was told his Tamahagne model which came in two sizes and cost around $1200 for the small and around $1600 for the large (this is when it was 120 yen to the dollar not 84 now) was produced upon subscription. He was told Iwasaki had a following of dedicated collectors who bought most of what he produced. As far as those razors went he had orders years in advance and sold none to retail stores. If you saw one in a store advertised as new it wasn't.

I also noticed at the Revisor page on NOS that DORKO seems to really command a pretty penny as well.

Dorko's used to bring huge dollars a bit back. Then they seemed to fall out of the limelight a bit and prices came down considerably. Not sure how Revisor's prices compare, as I haven't checked their pages, but I can say Dorkos are really fantastic razors.

I have a NOS Blue Diamond that was $3.75 in 1938-that sounds like a lot of money back then
