Butterfield Bradford info required !
Hi,
I thought this site might help me find more info out regarding a straight razor I just purchased. I hope with all your extensive knowledge that you can help me know more about the manufacture and if the razor was made in the UK.
The blade it a 6/8ths near wedge (with smile and barbers notch) - on the tang it reads 'Butterfield Bradford'.
To my knowledge if it was made in the UK for export, it should have 'England' stamped on.
If the Blade was made in the US, I would have expected something like 'PA' after the 'Bradford'.
Any advice is welcome
Regards
Barrington

Hi chaps and thanks for your help regarding this post.
After two months of research I may have the answer.
I recently visited a museum located in Bradford UK and whilst there I asked if they had any info. regarding Butterfield Bradford. My question and details were passed on and today I received a telephone call and email as shown below.
Dear Mr "Barrington",
As we discussed earlier you were looking for a razor manufacture in Bradford by the name of Butterfield in the early 1890’s.
Listed for 1893 and the earliest record I have here is B & A Butterfield – Cutlers of 29 Tyrrel St and 7 Bridge St Bradford UK. They made knives, cutlery and other pieces of domestic metal-ware such as (toothpicks), but ceased trading by 1906.
That is the only information I have available at present and I do hope it is of some use to you.

I have found various items along my quest shown below :-
BUTTERFIELD Bradford FOLDING DESK MAGNIFYER British | eBay UK

The link to the Bradford Post Office Trades Directory of 1883 is shown below
Historical Directories
Under the header "Cutlers" and above the world renowned Fattorini & Sons is Butterfield B&A 7 Bridge street, and 29 Tyrrel street Bradford UK.
After all this research the razor is back in its home town of Bradford once again (3 miles from where it came from).
Oh - and it shaves fantastic too lolLast edited by Barrington; 06-01-2011 at 09:08 PM.
