Default Peroux Cognet "Le Talisman" razor

    Ladies and gentlemen:

Do you by chance know anything about the French razor Peroux Cognet "Le Talisman"? I am curious. There is something "swashbuckler" about the name. Thanks.

    Regards,

    Obie

I have had two and still have one of them. The name was used on a frameback (which I still have) as well as a straight razor. The frameback is nice looking - the blade is thinnest at the heel then grows larger towards the tip, but in a straight line rather than the more common curve. It also has a 'dreadnought' kind of tip ground into the blade part, which is held by the frame which is perfectly circular in section.

Peroux-Cognet made a very good razor, in my opinion.

    Regards,
    Neil

    Hello, Neil:

Thank you for the information. Is Peroux-Cognet still being manufactured? Or are the ones floating around new old stock?

    Regards,

    Obie

    Hello Obie!

I do not think that they are still in business - most that I have seen come from the 1950s, possibly 1960s. I have had a search for the box mine came in and it seems that they were located in Thiers, which isn't really surprising seeing as Thiers is to France what Sheffield was to the UK and Solingen to Germany. It would be nice to know more about the company, but as we often find so many of these fine old companies have disappeared and left only indistinct ripples behind them.

    Regards,
    Neil

    Hello, Neil:

Bless your heart, my friend, for the information. Thanks for taking the time. I suppose we can put Peroux-Cognet in the mysterious category.

    Regards,

    Obie

Hi Obie! I´ve got a Peroux Cognet and it looks and feels a little like a Le Grelot and I´ve heard that the two companies had something in common and that maybe PC:s where made by Le Grelot. I doubt the later though and have nothing to prove the first with. So take this with a grain of salt. My PC (not original scales):

    Hello, Mikael:

Thank you for the information. Yes, you're right. The Peroux Cognet blade does look similar to that of the Le Grelot. Interesting thought. The razor intrigues me. By the way, your Peroux Cognet is gorgeous.

    Stay well.

    Obie
