Default Got some old razors Lots of Pics

    Hey every one,
I just got my hands of some old razors "Vom Cleff & Co, Gun Metal,Joseph Hollinger - Sheffield, Friedr Baurmann & Sohne - Comfort" and I was wondering if you guys can give me some info on them. I did my best to research them on my own but I would still like to see what every one says about them.

All the blabes are in good shape none of them have really any rust or much pitting. The rust I saw on them I was able to start taking off just by rubbing on it with my shirt : )
The Friedr Baurmann & Sohne has a broken scale but the blade is a good shape.

I would really like to know if they are worth anything "not what I can sell them for, but should I invest in having then restored and having a scale made" and if they are even good razors.

We do not discuss the worth of razors, but I'm sure someone who has used razors from the same makers will chime in with their experiences.

That's a gorgeous bunch of razors. How did you come across them if you don't mind my asking? What are your plans for them?

Holli4's our resident Thread Police and doing a good job of it. The only values of concern here are non-monetary. To that end I'm not familiar enough with any of those razors to be able to tell you anything you don't already know.

    Peace,

Thanks I am very happy to hear that they are a good set of razors, I got them from a barber that has been teaching me a bit about shaving with a straight razor.

I did not mean to make it sound like I wanted a price on the razors as much as I really want to know if they are worth fixing and having a scale made for the broken one.

I fixed my post so that its a bit more clear.

Thanks and keep the information about the blades coming...

IMO, all razors are worth fixing if you can do it yourself and have the time and the razor is savable. Same for scales. I do, however, think there are many razors that aren't worth sending out for the work. Just IMO, based on how I value razors, my time, and my money. Even those answers would likely be different from different people.

Wasn't sure what you were interested in knowing value wise. I know the Sheffield is good and a favorite of a lot of guys. The Solingen stamped razor will more than likely be a good shaver too. Sheffield and Solingen were high quality razor production regions for many years (and still are to my knowledge - though less than reputable folks have taken to stamping their blades with Sheffield or Solingen to get more money for them, so you have to be careful when looking at newer razors).

Personally the most interesting to me (by narrow margin) is the one marked Gun Metal just because I've never seen one stamped that way and it piques my interest. To be honest though, if you got them off of a barber they're probably all decent shavers and worth at least a cheap clean up and honing. You've got yourself a bigger collection there than most guys start out with!

See if you can get the guy to hone them all up for you so you can try them out and see which ones you like best. You can even shave with broken scales - though I'd hold off on that one until you're confident in your shaving skills as loose scales can be distracting and you don't need that starting off. If you like the way they shave you can always upgrade, customize, polish to your heart's content.
