Thanked: 0help, newbie w a vintage
I just acquired a vintage 5/8 Wester Bros 'Anchor Brand' Manganese Steel full hollow square point from a member on this site. I think the mail dummies must have stepped on it or something bc when it closes (even when the blade is perfectly vertical) the point will want to dig into one of the scales. Is there a recommended treatment for this problem? The scales are ivory, so I don't want to do anything to damage them (obviously). Thanks fellas for any help and/or suggestions and stay classy.

You need to send it to one of the resoration guys. Sounds like it needs to be taken apart
and add a flat washer on the tight side which would move the blade away from the scale
enough to be more centered.
There is a list of resoration guys in the classifieds. It should be an easy fix, Good luck.JERRY
OOOPS! Pass the styptic please.

are you sure they're ivory? if so they're a replacement, or a rather rare wester bros.
depending on how off and how tight the peening it may be possible to center it by just tightening a little bit more but assymetrically, otherwise it'll have be redone.
i'd most certainly agree with jerry that it may be best to get help by one of the experienced restoration guys.
