PUMA or Dubl Duck?
I stopped by my barber and during our conversation I mentioned that I am going old school (one step at a time) and I am going to exclusively shave with a DE Gillette style razor until I move onto the straight razor. As he listened I saw a slight grin on his face and then he opened up and started giving me advice on how to use the straight razor and how to sharpen it. He really enjoyed talking about the topic.
After I paid for my touch up he stopped me and told me he had something to show me. He reached down into a cabinet and moved some stuff out of the way and proceeded to show me his stash. Wow! He has Puma, Dubl Duck and many others. He told me that when I'm ready to start using a straight razor I can pick one out if his collection. I always knew he was cool and a really great person but this just blew me away.
I gotta hurry up and get to my straight shaving soon!
And no, I will not give you guys his name or location. Sorry, he's my barber.

Thanked: 81Depends on the grind and width for me. Both are great razors. I would pick the full hollow 11/16 or bigger. All things being equal, go with the Puma.

Back in the 1980s I got some razors from barbers in the north jersey area. None free though. At the time Alex Micah was the oldest practicing barber in the USA. He was 99 and still had his one man shop in Madison, NJ. I got an ivory scaled Heljestrand from him that I still have. Duck or Puma pick the one with the least hone wear.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
