ID assistance on an eBay special
So, I picked this one up a couple weeks ago, and cleaned it up, honed it and have been shaving with it. It is a great shaver, but I would like to know what exactly it is, if anyone knows. The pics from the eBay listing:
It is very plain jane, and is just stamped "Sheffield English Steel" on the face of the tang. I don't see anything else to ID it. Also, the dark line above the edge appears to be wear of some kind, but it seems odd to me that it is black/dark, but not rough. Almost like chrome worn off. That's not a big deal to me since it is a user, but I would like to know if I could polish that part back to a shine.Last edited by rannalf; 04-13-2011 at 01:53 PM.

I will try to get a decent closeup tonight, but it just says "Sheffield English Steel". Nothing I would call a "maker's mark".

I have one of those two, just says "sheffield english steel." After much consideration, I've decide that you have a sheffield straight razor there

The dark area might be tarnish or patina, but it's hard to tell from where I'm sitting.

Strange indeed. Sorry I can't help you. Looks like afterthought stamp. Doesn't really matter as long as it shaves well...
