Waterville Wood Handle?
Howdy. I just scored a Waterville Straight Razor "with a curved edge and a wooden handle." It is coming to me in the mail by the end of the week, and I will put pics up as soon as it comes. This will be my second straight razor! Does anyone know anything about this blade?? Thanks - JimLast edited by JDCAL29; 04-18-2011 at 10:53 AM.

I know Waterville Cutlery made good razors. I don't know if they made them with wood scales. They go way back so maybe they did. Until you post photos it will be difficult for anyone to assess the quality of your razor, and whether the scales are original or not.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

First off I wish everyone would stay away from my watervilles.
Second, I have never seen a single waterville with wood scales, but they are great razors and as such are worth rescaling. Also many people who owned razors spent plenty on them and if they needed new scales they would scale them with what they had and knew. Items like razors were not disposable items.
Third, I'm actually posting this to easily subscribe to this thread because I'm a waterville junkie and love pics.

Those are the pics pulled from the online page. I can send some better ones when I get it.

The guy I bought this thing from cashed my check. It's over a month since I "bought" it, and I still don't have the thing. I've contacted Craigslist and the person who sold it to me, and I get no response. Has anyone had this happen before??

You actually sent someone on Craigslist a check? I've driven a couple hours to pick stuff up on CL and a couple months ago I had a guy drive 4 hours to pick something up from me (it was on the way to a friends house so it sort of made sense).
Rules for Craigslist are:
cash only
Meet in a public place
Carry your 9 inside your waistband or a 38 or 380 in the same pocket as your wallet.
Follow these simple rules and you won't get ripped off again.
Sucks but its the nature of the beast. If the check has been cashed and you have emails outlining the terms you may able to get the PD to help you out.

This isn't my first Craigslist purchase... I know how it works. I have a hard time believing that someone would go through the motions of signing and cashing a check to steal ten dollars, especially on a straight razor. Let's be honest, they aren't the most coveted items on the planet.

I wonder how many other people sent him $10 for that same razor . For $10 , most people will take it as a loss , and not contact the authorities . I would go to the Postmaster , and inform him/her of what happened . You have a cancelled check to start a "paper trail" . Good luck ! I hope you can nail the guy .

Thanks guys... I know $10 isn't a huge deal, but I went after the seller. After talking with the postmaster, it's pretty clear that it was never sent. I notified the police today and so it begins.....
For what it's worth, the next time I buy a straight razor online, it will be from SRP Classifieds ONLY. I trust you guys.
