Thanked: 1Whats your luck with unbranded razors?
i found a completely unmarked wedge at my local antique store for 18 dollars i haven't picked it up yet because as stated it has absolutely no markings. seriously. none. i looked for a good ten minutes completely baffled by this because even the razors i see on here without a brand have some sort of identifying mark. the steel looks good. there's no pitting just a tiny bit of rust on the tang where it meets the pin. But i'm just wondering what other peoples experiences are? i might go ahead and get it regardless just cause it'll be good to practice honing with even if it turns out to be a total POS

My experience so far has been good, but I can usually look at a razors grind quality, shape and apparent age of the item to tell if it is legit or not.

I have several unmarked razors that are almost certainly Sheffield steel. They are good shavers (as most Sheffield razors are). If the blade edge is in good condition and the rest of the razor is in acceptable shape, I would go ahead and buy it. But then, I am eaten up by RAD, and my disease may skew my judgment.

Thanked: 1lol thanks. yeah i'm trying to keep away from RAD as much as possible but i just really want a wedge. I trust myself when it comes to steel, i've been using knives and tools on a regular basis for about ten years. Thanks this makes me feel better about buying it then

I've had good luck with unbranded razors. Be sure that they don't look like they were made recently especially the wedges.

Thanked: 121It always puzzles me when I see an unmarked razor, but my experiences have also been positive. I have a couple that I think are Solingen -- one I would rate as an excellent shaver, the other as an outstanding one.

I have mostly great luck with unbranded blades.please note we are not talking about new razors.
Most of them are very good quality blade and owner didn't wanted someone else to know and they erased the name of the maker.
Some of them make you say WOW.

I have one that isn't totally unmarked - it just says "sheffield english steel". No maker's or other identifying marks, and it is my daily shaver. For $18, you don't have much to lose.

If it is vintage, minus rust, it is good quality. It's that simple...
