Krusius Brothers 6/8" 'KB Extra' 67
i ordered this razor on ebay and it arrived today. as stated in the title, it's a Krusius Brothers 6/8" 'KB Extra' 67.
the razor is in pretty good shape. there is some (pitting?) black marks on the blade. the logos on the blade are kind of worn out. i figured it wasn't shave ready, but i went to try and shave with it. the blade is pretty sharp and maybe just needs to be touched up with a 8k or 12k stone. the scales are in bad shape and don't hold the blade very tight.
i figure my project for the summer will be to try to make new scales for it and pin them in. the blade can use some work too.
i got it for very cheap so even if i mess up, its not much of a loss.
let me know what you guys think!
thanks.
ALSO - i'm assuming it's a 6/8s because i measured it with a ruler hah. it seems smalled than my 5/8" Dovo. if anyone has any background on these types of razors, blade size and ground, please share.Last edited by hcintineo; 05-05-2011 at 12:03 AM. Reason: more info

Nice score. I started out with a 4/8 KB Extra and it's still one of my go to razors. They take and hold an edge very easy. Wonderful shaver.

this might actually be a 4/8". i measured it to be 6/8" but its smaller than my 5/8" Dovo. i can't wait to get it cleaned up!
i like them too ! but they are pretty beat up and shabby. when / if i make new scales i'll probably do wood again. the current wood scales don't seem like they're treated with anything anyway

They don't look beat up and shabby , to me . That's the way wood scales , that are over 100 years old , are supposed to look . It's your razor to do with as you please , but you may want to think twice , about rescaling that razor . I do believe those scales are original to the razor .

in addition - looking at the second to last picture posted above, of the blade itself, it looks uneven and may need to me (potentially) breadknifed. however, the blade still shaves well and evenly. i stropped the razor about 150 times on a linen strop and about 100 times on a soft leather strop. to me the blade looks very good, but if i want the blade to be aesthetically pleasing, should i hone it to be flat to make the spine of the blade?
thanks again in advance to everyone on this forum!

Thanked: 33For what it's worth, I've found that KB extras hold a heck of an edge and are excellent shavers.

i had another great shave with this razor today. it definitely could use a little work, but all in all, for the price i payed, so far its great.
if anyone can add any insight to any of the questions above, that would be great!
thanks.
