Thanked: 275The Dovo Best Quality is _not_ a "near-wedge". But I would describe mine (purchased from SRD) as a "half-hollow" grind, maybe 3/4-hollow. It's fairly hefty compared to the blades I'd call "full hollow" -- I have several of those from different vintage makers.
There's nothing wrong with the Dovo BQ -- don't worry about the grind. It'll come with a sharp edge, and cut off whiskers.

Grizli,
I have a Dovo Best 5/8 in half-hollow and have found it to be a super razor - it shaves (for me) beautifully and it is very easy to maintain
A true work-horse of a razor !
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

Thanked: 4Talk to Larry at whipped dog straights; Whipped Dog Straight Razor Sales
Instead of spending 120$ on a "maybe" you could buy one, guaranteed sharp, razor, try it, send it back, try another one, send that back etc for a fraction of that sum.
Once you have a notion of what you like, youll either stick with the one you found or you can shop your heart out somewhere armed with your new knowledge.
Larry rocks. Trying before spending a fortune rocks.
good luck

I agree, nothing wrong with the Dovo BQ.
From the link provided earlier in this thread:
"The "Best Quality" comes in 3 sizes, 2 grinds, and 3 colors. They are always made from Swedish carbon steel and they are always rounded at the toe (the sharp part of the razor furthest from your hand during use). You don't want it any other way for straight razor #1."
The sizes of the Best Quality razors are 4/8", 5/8", or 6/8". "Size" here refers to the 'height' of the razor, or the length between the spine (the rounded thickest part at the top of the blade) and its edge.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 12Looking back on when I started, It would have been good to have my 6/8 Dovo Best half hollow. IMO it would be easier to learn on this blade that the full hollow I had at the time. Less drag and a smoother shave.

thanks to all
thanks all for all the info
I must say it's fun being new to a well established forum and getting numerous detailed and informative replies such as these.
Hakan, your suggestion is interesting, but as i'm not a usa resident, just the shipping cost of testing a few will be more then choosing well at the first place - hence the questions.
I might be in the states in a bit (work related), so maybe I'll postpone until I can get there and see for myself. on the other hand, emailing SRD somehow didn't occur to me
we'll see
