Thanked: 0First Restoration
I completed my first restoration last night. I received a few blades from a friend, some are very nice so I wanted to attempt my first restore on one that I felt wasn't as valuable. The one I chose is a 4/8 SIMMONS HDWE CO. I am not familiar with this company and had trouble finding any info on it. The blade was covered in rust and the scales were broke. I had a pair of black plastic scales that I polished up. I used my bench polisher and went through the steps form the Wiki vid that I watched. I could have spent more time removing some of the small pitting but I sort of like the look. I received my pinning material last night and put it all together. I think it came out nice for my first try. Now I need to send it out for honing. If anyone has any info on this maker it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanked: 13245Nice job first off
This is one of the better known "Hardware Brands" there are almost as many of them as there were Hardware stores out there, think about walking into ACE or True Value and finding 3m products re-branded with each Hardware store logo today..
Simmons and Shapliegh are two of the best known ones but there are a ton of them,,many of them are made in Germany fewer in the US it should have a "Made in" stamp on the back side...
Which company actually made these I have never found out, or perhaps it was many of them, I do know because I have seen the stamps that ERN made some so did SRD and Kholer (sp*)...
According to my book the Simmons was made in Germany between 1868-1960

Thanked: 0Thanks for the info. The backside of the tang is blank but, it does have the USA stamp under the Simmons stamp.
