Thanked: 4Buchholz & Maus # 431 (PICS!)
Men,
Today I made a purchase from a local antique store: for $35.00 I picked up 2 Buchholz & Maus # 431 (pics below) and a hone: an Aloxite # 79.
The razors are in good condition, though they could use a restoration by a gifted individual.
Questions:
From when do these come? I know they are German made, and were sold in Pittsburgh, PA. However I am at a loss as to when they were made.
Do they have any value besides the fact that I think they are the cat's pajamas? Any information will be appreciated!
Also, the stone. Can anyone tell me if this is a good stone, or just a cheapie. In other words, should I use it? And how often?
Pics are below, and thank you in advance to all here who may answer. And you'd better. You all fostered my interest until I started spending money...
On such beautiful things!

Thanked: 46The razor with 431 on the tang is a F W Engels. These are considered to be some of the better shavers of the German blades. It alone is a bargain for the $35.00 Best Regards and Happy Shaving, wildhog

Buchholz and Maus was a Pittsburgh barber supply. F.W. Engels made razors for them and stamped the retailer's name on the tang. You might go to razor clubs and look at the Engels bunch to compare. A givaway is also Hansel and Gretl on the bolsters of both. I would bet they have been together since new. I have seen a bonafide Leader with the same tang stamps, bolsters! Looks like they belonged to a barber as they have been well used! Rare and cool find.

Thanked: 4Great! Thanks so much for the info! As pictured, one of the razors is missing the bolsters from one side. The other has cleaned up nicely; mind you, not restored but fixed up a little. Is it worth a full restoration on these (or one) razor(s)?
Also: the stone? Does anyone know anything about it? Is it junk? It is in good shape, but is it a good stone?
Thanks again, Hog and Sharpie!
