The simple answer is they are more popular. They are quality razors, but so are several other brands from the time. They have made some nice large choppers, but so did several other brands. They are not scarce either. There's nothing much to point at, regarding the reason for their particular popularity above other brands of the time. And despite being aware of these things, I too am a W&B fan.

Of course, as with any used razor it is how much life is left in it that matters. When you combine the popularity of the brand, due to its great shaving characteristics, along with how many times it can be honed before showing 'to much' hone wear, give the razor it's value.
In looking at the used razors, the ones that command the most money, have the least hone wear. You can have a rusty, darkened, patina covered W&B, but if it has hardly been honed, WHO CARES?? It can be a great razor again.
I have a couple now from the 1860's that are drawing around 160.00 on the bay. I have a couple of 5/8's and 6/8's that are worth 20$ no matter how cleaned up or restored they are. It's what people are after.
I have found that the old Wostenholms, Wadsworths and Worths also command a pretty penny, despite the condition, if they show very little hone wear.
Just my 2 cents for ya!!-- Any day I get out of bed, and the first thing out of my mouth is not a groan, that's going to be a good day --

Any razor costs what people are willing to pay.
