Thanked: 0Stickies with info?
New to the forum. Been searching all over for info on razor restoration for a couple years. I've got some experience with honing an edge, and have picked up a few blades from local antique shops that I intend to use as practice before I begin restoring some razors I inherited from my Grandfather.
I will most likely be purchasing new scales to go with the razors, unless there is info out there on how to construct scales. My expertise to this point has been in electronics, and my fabrication knowledge is pretty limited.
I read that whole article about Honemeisters vs. Honesters, and I guess that makes me a Honester. I'll be honest, I ask a lot of questions when I'm learning something new, but I'm GOOD at the things I choose to do, so if you'd take that into account when dealing with me, it would be appreciated.
I also was curious about the mention that was given to lack of titles. If nothing had been said, it would be one thing, but apparently this has been brought up in a manner that leads me to believe people want some standardization incorporated into this type of thing, and it was decided not to go this route. Can I ask why? I get that you guys have your own little community, but have you considered all the poor schmucks that are out there getting ripped off by people because there's NOT an organizational set of standards?
I'm just wondering...I'm a carpet cleaner for a local company working on my Master Level IICRC Textile Cleaner cert , and in my spare time I do Home Theater installation and optimization. I've gotten my Level II ISF certification, and am trying to save the money for my CEDIA Installation and Home Acoustics Association certs. That's a hella lot of letters, I know, but those things, and the knowledge they imply, set me apart from a lot of people, both in the carpet cleaning industry and in the AV world.

Thanked: 13245There are a couple of spots to start with Restore info
Here http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...wers-here.html
is everything in full versions, the Wiki has some of this condensed in there for easy, fast access
Titles/ Standardization, etc: for Honing
Here is the trick, Many people can hone razors for themselves,,, Now who do you suppose is going to judge if they can hone razors for others ????
Just because you can hone one razor, and send to the guy with the most experience out there (Lynn) and assume he has the time to check it out, even if he decides that is a good edge... What did it really prove ???? NOTHING... only that you can hone that razor
Hence the free market weeds out the guys that know what they are doing and those that don't...Cruel harsh world that we live in huh???
This is why we never did it... as to the poor scmucks getting ripped off out there in the big wide world, well the info is right here, all they have to do is Google "Straight Razor" and they can find usLast edited by gssixgun; 05-30-2011 at 04:42 PM.
