Money's always rather tight for me, so my advice to new shavers reflects that. I always recommend against a really expensive razor until you're sure you'll stick with it and you know how to handle a razor so as not to damage it.
But if you are totally comfortable spending that much, it's really a matter of personal preference. I'm not sure which TI you are looking at, so that makes it impossible to say. I actually really like how TI's shave; I find them to be stiff full hollows, and I really like that. I do also like Filly's, because they tend to take very smooth shaving edges for me.

Thanked: 240You really can't go wrong, if it was me it would depend on which TI you are talking about. I have a few TIs and a filly 13 dt and can say the filly is every bit as good if not slightly better than both my new TI and my vintage TI, but it can't touch the edge on my TI made from a historic blank which stands alone as my best shaver. So yeah it would depend on which TI and whatever one I liked the look of more.

Thanked: 7It's a 135 Carbonsong 6/8 in French Nose. The TI, I mean. Like Rarreola said, at first I was inclined to go after the Filly, because TIs I can get new anytime.
Dylan, yes, I plan to stick with it. I learned how to properly use a straight on the Wade and Butcher India Steel you sold me (which I've damaged in the process, sorry). The price is about 130$ for the TI, maybe 140$ for the Filly, I have to do the euro/$ conversion.
Stubear, the scale is pure plasic on the TI, just like the Filly. But even so the TI's is much better than Filly's in that department, as Filly has - in my opinion - the most horrible scales.

My preference would be for the Filly. I've got 2, a Doble Temple 13 and a Medallon Taurino 14 and both are superb shavers.

I think I would pursue the Filly 13 6/8 Novodur. The Novodur razors seem to be well liked and as far as I can tell less common than the Filly DT.
I have a Medallon Taurino 14 and like it lots. That said I do have several TI razors and like most of them a lot too, so you should be happy with either. They do still make new TI razors though in the C135 steel...
Enjoy which ever razor you get

OMG, what a terrible choice to have to make!! eh? I would have to go with the filly. that's just a personal preference, because I want one so bad. However, either will be a great addition. put on a blindfold, and which ever razor you touch first, buy.
Later!!-- Any day I get out of bed, and the first thing out of my mouth is not a groan, that's going to be a good day --
